The Martin Beck Theatre was the host for the Broadway opening of Bye Bye Birdie in 1960.
Following the opening at The Martin Beck, the show moved two times. First to the 54th Street Theater and finally to The Shubert Theatre where it completed it's 607 performance run.
Bye Bye Birdie was directed and choreographed for Broadway by Gower Champion. The original Broadway cast included Dick Van Dyke and Chita Rivera. It was nominated for seven Tony Awards in 1961 and won four including Best Musical, Best Choreography, Best Direction of A Musical, and Best Featured Actor (Van Dyke).
